UK Oak Doors sell doors online and from Amazon and eBay. They initially wanted to use Odoo for only helpdesk management but when Target Integration spoke to them about the benefits of the software, they decided to replace a number of different business systems and concentrate on Odoo only.

Their Odoo environment is now integrated with their Asterisk-based PBX and all the sales and helpdesk calls go through it. The stock management is integrated and during the discovery phase, they discovered around 20k worth of stock sitting in the warehouse which wasn’t accounted for in the old system.

Improvements in sales & inventory management processes:

The priority for Instant upright is to provide a solution that supports the sales process and the link to procurement and ordering of raw materials and parts. The required outcomes will reduce the impact of these processes on the inventory at all locations. Better information will cause better customer service and overall performance.

Better planning process:

The proposed solution will enhance the demand planning process using existing and forecast data to support the planning process and provide a more tailored approach to decision making.

The multi-phase solution required:

The required solutions should be a multi-phase project that deals with the key changes required in the business. This document sets out the requirements for the company and a proposed approach.


Before implementing the solutions, all the requirement gathering was done in the discovery phase. After that, as per challenges, the solutions were provided and as a result, the following modules were installed by Target Integration team on Odoo Version 12.

Modules installed in 3 separate phases with a high-end focus on each of the requirements.

Sales Order Management:

Specifically Target Integration implemented configuration of the Odoo system, this involved the configuration of the Sales, Inventory and Purchasing modules. Configuration ensured that it must include CRM information on customers to include previous sales and quotation history along with many other features.

Quotation and sales management:

The implementation allowed the processing of ATS opportunities and quotations leading to sales orders. It also acted as a mechanism for creating a quotation for the special projects, pulling the larger dataset together and linking it to the rest of the system. 


The financial reporting used the capability of Odoo for all the reporting requirements. Wherever the complex reporting was required or identified, then the ability to report via PowerBI was made available.

Product development:

Product life-cycle management tools to simplify the updating of BoMs and new product development and implementation of all the task to provide the functional benefits like document management, price history, project quotation, calculation of total manufacturing cost, development & recording of the manufacturing quality plan, and product life cycle management, etc.


 With the help of Odoo capabilities all the required features like email marketing, newsletter subscription, campaign management, investment monitoring, trade shows, and event management, etc. were implemented.

Demand planning:

 All the key elements of functionality like procurement requirement, sales forecasting, order & stock management, warehouse management, vendor management, etc. were implemented.

Master Data:

A plan was constructed on how to move data to Odoo at each stage, the format of the data and when it will be transferred. Before this could happen, a data cleaning exercise was done. Specific tasks to be included in this phase were of importing data of 2 years sales analysis, importing of open sales and supplier items, importing of BoM components – then the count was of 9000 items.


Functionality in the manufacturing will take advantage of the integration and exchange of data between the module. Several features were taken care of.

Inventory Control:

It provided a range of enhancements related to stock, stock control, documentation and tracking. Many inventory functionalities like sub-location within each warehouse, two-tier operations, automated replenishments, lead time management, and finance notifications were implemented.

Customer Service:

Post-sales customer support was made available across the main areas. Returns management were controlled from customer service and linked to warehousing.

Other Developments:

It included BOMs from CAD to Odoo, health and safety management along with incident reporting, quality management system to support the business aligned to ISO 9001, Machine maintenance schedule system. All were implemented as per the phase implementations.

ResultsAt each stage, a set of ‘Requirements’ were identified and at the proposed phase it was completed. They were as defined under:

Phase 1

primarily focused on inventory & sales process development: This element focused on the sales process and the development of project plans and simulations that allowed quotations and initial planning of production. It considers the stock situation as part of the planning and proposals and supported the procurement process. An emphasis on allowing rapid deployment of requirements formed an underlying theme. Any complex or extended developments were covered in the later stages.

Phase 2

primarily focused on manufacturing process: This phase focused on the improvement and development of capabilities provided in phase one and expanded the focus to the manufacturing process that included work order planning, wider resource planning and the role of quality control.

Phase 3

Focused on marketing activities, HR & other operations: This final phase looked into further development on existing capabilities, brought in functions related to Go Direct, Online sales and marketing activities as well as other operations such as HR, Maintenance and better customer services.

Each phase was completed when all the sections of work have been signed off and tested.

The final task of each phase was to provide training for all affected staff on the use of the system. These were adapted to include/match any SOP training that was provided by Instant Upright as part of the change process.
